The United Nations High Commission for Refugee is the arm of the UN when it comes to refugees issues. Also known as the UN Refugee Agency, it was organized in 1950 to respond to displacement from the Second World War, an event which resulted in many people being forced to flee their homes. Their team is made up of individuals, communities, foundations, and businesses across the world who advocate for refugees and raise funds that support UNHCR delivery of humanitarian relief to displaced families across the globe.
Today, UNHCR operates in more than 130 countries, based on your website data a record number of 79.5m people were displaced in 2019 - more than half were children. The organization has grown as a result of record levels of displacement; now it provides services to more than six decades' worth of refugees.
The fundraising activity this charity engages in includes individual giving, partnering with corporations and trusts, as well as special events. UNHCR is apolitical and believes that the major issues of the day must be addressed in a non-partisan way. Families who do not have anyone to turn to can receive humanitarian relief from UNHCR teams, ranging from life-saving aid for those fleeing war zones to longer-term assistance, such as education and health care, for those whose future is uncertain.
